College Counseling

University and Career Counseling

Making the “right” or “best” decision about college is one of the most exciting milestones for students and families. It is also one of the most challenging. With so many options, pathways, and considerations, the process can feel both inspiring and overwhelming.

At EABH, our College Counseling Department is dedicated to guiding students and parents through every stage of the university admissions journey. We support students not only in navigating applications, but also in exploring their academic interests, identifying career aspirations, and discovering the university environments where they will thrive.

Through individualized guidance provided throughout high school, we help students make informed and confident decisions about their postsecondary pathways. Our comprehensive, multi-year approach ensures that students are prepared academically, strategically, and personally for life beyond EABH.

Our mission

Our mission is rooted in a student-centered approach that honors each student’s individuality, creativity, and aspirations. We guide students as they navigate increasingly complex global university systems, fostering resilience and empowering them with the confidence to excel in an ever-changing and interconnected world.

We strive to ensure that every student leaves EABH excited about what lies ahead, equipped to advocate for their beliefs, pursue purposeful global engagement, and build meaningful lives grounded in lifelong learning.

College planning at EABH is a journey that starts early. In Grades 6–8, students begin developing the foundational skills that will support their success in high school and beyond. Through assemblies and advisory activities, we focus on strengthening organizational skills, time management, critical thinking, self-advocacy,independence, and more. We also encourage students to explore extracurricular activities and discover their interests, helping them build confidence and a strong sense of identity. Early engagement not only enriches their overall school experience but also lays the groundwork for thoughtful and informed university choices in the years ahead.

Grade 9-10: Exploration
Students begin their journey in Grade 9 and 10  through advisories, where they explore their academic interests, career possibilities, and the fundamentals of college admissions. This stage encourages self-discovery, goal-setting, and the development of a strong foundation in academics.

We also strongly encourage students to explore meaningful summer opportunities during these early high school years. Whether online or in person, programs may be academic, sports-based, or interest-driven. Students can also pursue valuable experiences close to home through job shadowing, internships, or volunteer work. These opportunities help students discover their passions, build skills, and begin developing a well-rounded profile for future university applications.

EABH supports students in identifying and connecting with these opportunities, helping them take initiative and make informed choices about their interests and goals.

Grade 11: College Preparatory Class
In Grade 11, students can enroll in a dedicated College Preparatory class that meets each week. This course is designed to guide students through the key components of the college application process, including:

  • Exploring interests, potential majors, and career options.
  • Developing a comprehensive application portfolio.
  • Writing personal entrance essays.
  • Preparing for standardized entrance exams.
  • Conducting in-depth university research, including programs, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities.
  • Creating a personalized timeline to ensure readiness for application season.

By the end of junior year, students are equipped with an application portfolio and a strategic plan to approach their senior year.

Grade 12: Individualized Support
In their final year, students receive one-on-one guidance tailored to their specific needs. The College Counseling office  provides hands-on support in:

  • Completing and submitting college applications.
  • Navigating financial aid and scholarship applications.
  • Preparing necessary documents for visa applications.
  • Getting ready for the transition to university life, including preparing to move abroad.

Our counselor works closely with students and their families to ensure they feel supported and prepared during this exciting and transformative process.

By the time students graduate, they are not only prepared to embark on their college journey but also confident in their ability to thrive in their chosen paths.

We offer semesterly sessions for parents to ensure families feel informed and confident about the next steps in the college planning process. These sessions include conversations about curriculum planning, updates on new trends in university admissions, information about summer programs and enrichment opportunities, and guidance on how to best support students throughout high school.

  • Dedicated Google Classrooms per grade
  •  Newsletter updates with upcoming events and activities (Wednesday What)
  •  Open-door access to counselor

Making the “right” or “best” decision about college, whether it be in Brazil or internationally, is one of the most exciting decisions for students and parents to make. But it is also one of the toughest decisions to make.  Part of what we do at EABH is provide guidance in and outside of school hours for both students and parents. Through our Brazilian College Prep and International College Prep courses in both the G11 (Junior) and G12 (Senior) years of high school, we aid students in making the tough choice of their postsecondary pathway. What follows are some of the tools we use in helping them make this decision. We want to provide them to the EABH community so that whenever you (students and/or parents) are ready to begin the path to making such a decision, you have some guidance. Please, if you have any questions, contact Ms. Paulina Bula at paulina.bula@eabh.com.br

Your students’ grades 9-12 have access to all of these things in our College Counseling Corner in Google Classroom!

Additionally, please click on the link to take you to Bridge U. This is our one-stop shop for all things College Prep. Your G11 and G12 student will have the opportunity to build a list of schools, see how closely they match to their individual profiles and “must haves”, and it will allow them to participate in virtual tours/visits with college admission officers.

You may want to begin making choices by first deciding on a Budget:

We also know many of you will begin your search looking at the rankings of schools. While we do not recommend this as the only factor when making decisions about schools–location, fit for student personality, size, degree offerings, study abroad opportunities–we know it may be important to you. This is the best ranking system to use: QS World University Rankings. (US World and News Report is not a credible source based on how it gathers its data about universities).

Meet the Counselor
Paulina Bula

Originally from Kraków, Poland, I grew up in the northeastern United States and have dedicated my career to supporting students through the university admissions journey. I joined EABH in July 2022 and have had the privilege of celebrating three—soon to be four—graduating classes.

Prior to moving to Brazil, I spent three years in Beirut in a similar college counseling role. Before transitioning into high school guidance, I worked in university admissions in Boston for nearly ten years as an admissions counselor, specializing in international applicants and reviewing thousands of prospective student applications.

Fun fact: I first visited EABH in 2015 and 2016 while representing a university at a college fair—making my return to campus years later especially meaningful.
